Athene

This was my first large series of paintings with a common motive as starting point: A statue of the Greek goddess Athene. The original, a bronze sculpture from Acropolis, is long lost. However, a Roman marble copy still exists. A plaster cast of this statue was my model for the first paintings. Some of the works are painted collages. Enlarged black and white photos with visible rastering are pasted on the canvas. These are then painted. The paint covers some photographic features, and enhances others.
